Bass, David M. Cushing ![]() Bass David M. Cushing has begun a promising career in the Boston music scene. His most recent roles performed include Alidoro in Rossini's La Cenerentola with Lake George Opera, Dr. Grenvil in Verdi's La Traviata with Chorus pro Musica, and La Voce in Mozart's Idomeneo, Bottom in Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream, the Stranger in Lukas Foss' The Jumping Frog, and Mr. Gobineau in Menotti's The Medium, all with Boston University's Opera Institute. He has also been heard as the Sculptor Monk in Massenet's Le Jongleur de Notre Dame with Boston Academy of Music, with whom he sang the role of Sid in Puccini's Fanciulla del West. He performed the Second Lion and the Oldest Devil in Lukas Foss's Griffelkin with Boston Modern Orchestra Project, roles he recorded on the Chandos label. He sang Superintendant Budd in Britten's Albert Herring with the Red House Opera Group. He has also been heard as Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni with Opera North. He has performed soloist duties in Händel's Messiah, Dvórak's Stabat Mater, Mozart's Requiem, Fauré's Requiem, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Mozart's Coronation Mass, Beethoven's Mass in C, and Schubert's Mass in G.
