Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande: An anonymous donor pledged to match any donation that we received for this production.

Pelleas & Melisande

Debussy’s original version was completed in 1895. It is a chamber work with piano written by one of the 20th century’s great composers for that instrument. Some seven years later, an expanded orchestral version was commissioned and later premiered by the Opera Comique in Paris. The intimacy of the drama and the power of the almost conversational setting of the text as well as the clarity of Debussy’s impressionistic musical language are certainly more telling in this version. We recommend acquiring a libretto...from a library, a music store, or online.

The Bostonians are very happy to announce that ARSIS AUDIO made a studio recording of our production a week after the performances!

When: May 31, 2006 & June 2, 2006 at 7:30 PM
